Olasubomi Oyenuga
Governor Diaspora Europe Region

Olasubomi knew she wanted to be a teacher from an early age. She pursued many outlets to develop her skills as an educator through a variety of school-based professional development. These include Accelerated Individualised Learning at the Christian Education Europe, Shriven Ham, United Kingdom, Cognitive Coaching SM and Conversations That Transform Thinking at the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) at Disney World Florida, Neurology Game Changers Workshop at Jenson Learning Corporation, San Antonio, USA and in ‘Challenges and Triumphs of 21st Century Teaching and Leadership’ at Cambridge University, United Kingdom.

Olasubomi’s accommodating and versatile personality with the talent to develop inspiring hands-on lessons that captured children’s imagination and breed success enabled her to become the first African to teach both primary and secondary school levels for six years in County Limerick, Ireland. She became part of the senior management team and served as an Acting Principal before returning to her homeland to continue her teaching practice.

Olasubomi’s enthusiasm, commitment to education with innate ability to understand and motivate children further led her to work in a well-known reputable school based in Lagos Nigeria six months after relocating. She taught IGCSE World History and Enterprise, served in the senior management team as a pastoral principal, whole school events coordinator and facilitated teacher trainings and mentorship programs for middle level teaching staff.

Olasubomi being a self-directed, action-oriented professional with over ten years’ experience in education and community service, returned to full time education as a mature student at the National University of Ireland Maynooth where she recently attained both a Bachelors Degree (Double Major) in Social Science in 2020 and a Master Degree in Education in October 2021. Upon completion of her dissertation titled ‘Diversification of the Teaching Labour Force in Ireland’, Olasubomi realised her passion for diversified education in today’s global world.

Olasubomi’s dedication, resourcefulness and goal-driven commitment to social and academic growth and development led to her voluntary service as the president of the National University Ireland Maynooth’s Mature Student Society for two years, a MAP Ambassador and mentor of the College Connect Program which entailed motivating both secondary school fifth, sixth years and post leaving certification (PLC) students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Olasubomi thoroughly enjoys working with children and encourages creative expression which is why she also voluntarily serves as the Children and Teenagers Ministry leader in her local church in County Westmeath, Ireland for over four years till date.
