The Fashion Entrepreneurs Community Group has attracted over 500 participants from across the globe since its inception. A major focus of the Group this year is to help members rethink, restrategise and reposition for business in a changing world via digital process automation and networking.
Serah Kassim, Founder of the Fashion retail brand Serah Kassim, a made-in-Nigeria retail brand that uses Afrocentric clothing to promote African textiles for women. Our goal is to empower young women with the right fit to feel beautiful and confident to win in a well-tailored dress.
A BSc Graduate of Botany from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and an MBA from Nexford University, a next-generation, online university based in Washington DC.
Serah is an e-commerce enthusiast with over 8years of experience in Pattern-making, Fashion design, Entrepreneurial, and E-commerce. With a deep passion for creating and designing, Serah started designing pieces for her friends and young women at university.
In 2017, Serah Kassim was amongst the 1000 successful business ideas selected from about 100,000 applicants by the Tony Elumelu Foundation, whose idea would transform Africa. In 2018, the “Serah Kassim” brand was officially launched as a registered clothing brand, born out of the need to empower young African women with the right fit to feel beautiful and confident to win a well-tailored Afrocentric garment.
Serah Kassim is all about empowering young women, and with this, she launched the Free Yearly “Learn a sub-skill with SerahKassim” in 2018. A yearly empowerment initiative launched to inspire, and support vulnerable young women living in slums by providing free fashion creative and design training opportunities for informal education towards employment to young women and partnered with Kindle Africa, a women Empowerment Integrated Education Center, Makoko Lagos, Nigeria and has gone on to empower over 500 women in the last three years.
In 2020, Serah Kassim launched the retail brand of Serah Kassim, www.serahkassim.com, to provide ease with shopping Afrocentric garments online while empowering African women with the Right fit to feel beautiful and confident in a well-tailored attire and has sold to over 20 countries globally.
Over the last year, Serah was selected as one of the recipients of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) through the Export Expansion Facility Programme (EEFP) grant partnership to accelerate the performance of 50 TEF Entrepreneurs in Nigeria within the non-oil Export Sector. She was also selected with 99 other African women founders to get additional grant funding from the TEF alumni network in partnership with The “Women Entrepreneurship for Africa” (WE4A), jointly supported by the European Union (EU), the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Development Agency GIZ (E4D program).
In 2022, Serah Kassim was amongst the 100 female entrepreneurs selected from over 10000 to receive business grants of up to N2 million out of its 1-billion-naira fund earmarked to empower 2500 female entrepreneurs in 5 years by Flourish Africa founded by Apostle Folorunso Alakija.
Through her commitment to serving and empowering more entrepreneurs for success, Serah also currently leads customer success at Bumpa, a tech startup building the infrastructure that will empower small business owners with the tool and resources they need to grow and manage their businesses online.
Serah is a massive fan of the Zara brand; she believes that one day Africans will create global retail brands that can stand alongside their international counterpart. Serah Kassim is enthusiastic about life and loves reading, watching movies, and traveling. Her most admired entrepreneurs are Sara Blakely and Amancio Ortega, as she hopes that one day the Serah Kassim brand will truly put Africa Fashion on the global retail map.
